Faculty » Shirley Goodwin
Shirley discovered quilting around 20 years ago, and has been dyeing and creating her own fabric for much of this time. She bought Tillia Dyes & Fabrics - a boutique business selling fabric and wool dyes and unique hand dyed fabric - 10 years ago. With an adult teaching qualification already under her belt and teaching experience in business, she taught dyeing and surface design at New Zealand's National Quilting Symposium in 2007, 2009 and 2011, as well as occasional teaching of dyeing and quilting at a local level.
Shirley's strength is color, and she has been creating original wall art using her hand dyed and painted fabric for over a decade. As she was employed elsewhere until recently, her creative work has had to be fitted into her spare time. However, Shirley has just graduated with a degree in Visual Art and now she will be able to devote more time to her fiber art - an exciting prospect!
